The fact of finding someone right in the XXI century trying to revive the best essences of baroque and psychedelic pop certainly seems mad. That madness that has been transmitted pure and vigorous from Syd Barrett or Billy Nicholls, from Brian Wilson or the “Odyssey and Oracle” Zombies. This way Jacco Gardner stands out as the best-kept secret of this lineage of aesthetes and craftsmen devoted to melodic beauty. Known as the 50% of the amazing Skywalkers, finally we will have the chance to taste the quality as a composer and as a music player of this gifted musician thanks to Action Weekend Records.

Two timeless popsike jewels that could have been written last night or four decades and a half ago. After all, psychedelia is nothing but mentally getting lost in the night of times. The delightful languor of “Clear The Air” and the syncopated rhythm of “A House On The Moon” seem to be built under the dreamlike mantle of an intoxicating and lysergic mist, all adorned by the wise hands of sound engineer and producer Jean Audier, one of the myths of Dutch 60’s garage and psychedelia (Q65, Golden Earrings or The Motions put their music in their hands). Gardner’s music is linked with late XIX century symbolism and early XX century modernism, those rebel
movements that fought against the colorless mediocrity of their surrounding society, shutting themselves off armed with their creative gifts to aspire to the highest of all the states of mind: the aesthetic.

So you cannot find in these two musical compositions the slightest conventionalism or rock’n’roll cliché , only the defense of a way of understanding life, a way completely rejected and forgotten after more than 100 years of capitalistic triumph and impositions. In short, a comeback to hedonism of the senses. A sweet paganism in which melody is the most powerful spirits or the most hallucinogenic drug. Let your brain enjoy these two magic potions and let your mind do the rest.
If anybody thought that hallucinations such as “Odessey And Oracle”, A-side in "Da Capo", The Beach Boys "Smile" or The Ballroom "Preparing For The Millenium" had no effects any longer, or if anybody thought the teachings of Curt Boettcher, Gary Usher, Michael Brown o Joe Meek would not have any contemporary disciple, it is time for them to discover what Jacco Gardner has prepared. This is just a bit of a more ambitious long-play project, an advance of the aesthetic battle that is about to begin. Enjoy it and let its beauty shower you.

El hecho de que en pleno siglo XXI alguien trate de revitalizar las mejores esencias del pop más barroco y psicodélico suena casi a un delirio. A esa locura que se ha transmitido pura y vigorosa desde Syd Barrett hasta Billy Nicholls pasando por Brian Wilson o los Zombies del “Odyssey and Oracle”. De este modo se presenta Jacco Gardner como el secreto mejor guardado de esta tradición de estetas y artesanos consagrados a la belleza melódica. Conocido por ser el 50% de los sorprendentes Skywalkers, por fin podemos apreciar la calidad compositiva e instrumental de este músico multidisciplinar por obra y gracia de Action Weekend Records.

Dos pequeñas joyas de “popsike” atemporal que pudieran haber sido escritas lo mismo anoche como hace cuatro décadas y media. Al fin y al cabo la psicodelia no es si no el perdernos mentalmente en la noche de los tiempos. Tanto la deliciosa languidez de “Clear the air” como el brío sincopado de “A house on the moon” parecen construidas bajo el tejido onírico de una embriagadora bruma lisérgica, todo ello tamizado por la sabia mano del productor e ingeniero de sonido Jean Audier, uno de los nombres más míticos del garage y la psicodelia 60’s en Holanda (baste decir que Q65, Golden Earrings o Motions pasaron por sus manos) La música de Gardner entronca espiritualmente con el simbolismo de finales del siglo XIX y el modernismo de comienzos del XX, aquellos movimientos rebeldes cuya lucha contra la gris y mediocre sociedad que les rodeaba no era otra que la de encerrarse en ellos mismos armados de su talento creador y desde ahí aspirar al más elevado de los estados anímicos: el estético.

No hay por lo tanto en estas dos piezas musicales el mayor convencionalismo ni el mínimo lugar común dentro del rock&roll, si no la reivindicación de una manera de entender la vida absolutamente perdida y denostada desde hace más de 100 años de triunfo capitalista e imposición burguesa. Es, en definitiva, un regreso al hedonismo de los sentidos. Un dulce paganismo en el que la melodía obra como el más poderoso de los alcoholes o la más alucinante de las drogas. Regálele a su cerebro la escucha de estas dos pociones mágicas y deje que su propia mente haga el resto. Si alguien creía que alucinaciones como el “Odyssey and Oracle”, la cara A del “Da Capo”, "Smile" de Beach Boys ó “Preparing for the millenium” de The Ballroom habían dejado de propagar sus efectos, o si alguien pensaba que las enseñanzas de Curt Boettcher, Gary Usher, Michael Brown ó Joe Meek no habían sido depositadas en ningún testigo contemporáneo, es hora de que descubran lo que Jacco Gardner les tiene preparado.
